Being The Apple: A Freelancer’s Journey to Discovering Their True Worth in Pricing

As a freelancer or a small company, pricing your services can be a daunting task. You don’t want to overcharge and drive clients away, but you also don’t want to undervalue your work and expertise. A few months ago, I thought I had a good understanding of how to price my services as a UI/UX Designer and Developer. However, I recently had a conversation with a freelancer who provided the exact same service as me but charged 10 times more and had more clients than me. This left me feeling perplexed and questioning my pricing strategy.

I started researching and discovered that I was not the cheapest in the market, and there were many others who provided the same service at a lower cost. This got me thinking about The Apple concept — how companies like Apple and others stand out from the competition and can charge a premium for their products and services.

The key takeaway from this concept is that you need to be the industry leader to command higher prices. You need to be the Apple of your industry. This means having a strong brand, a unique selling point, and delivering exceptional value to your clients.

So, how can you be the Apple in your industry? Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Develop a strong brand: Your brand should represent who you are and what you stand for. It should be unique, memorable, and resonate with your target audience.
  2. Deliver exceptional value: Your clients should feel like they are getting more value than what they are paying for. This means going above and beyond to exceed their expectations.
  3. Focus on quality over quantity: Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Focus on delivering a high-quality service to a specific niche, and you will stand out from the competition.
  4. Build a strong network: Networking is essential in any industry. Build relationships with other professionals, and they may refer clients to you or collaborate with you on projects.

In conclusion, pricing your services can be challenging, but it’s essential to understand your worth and charge accordingly. To stand out from the competition and command higher prices, you need to be the Apple of your industry. Develop a strong brand, deliver exceptional value, focus on quality, and build a strong network. By doing so, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a successful and respected freelancer or small company.
